Youth Congress leader hacked to death in Kannur

In a tragic incident being reported from Kerala, a man was murdered by a group of unidentified men in the Kannur district on Monday night. The gang reached the spot in a van and soon began hurling crude bombs before hacking Shuhaib, who sustained serious injuries. Preliminary reports said Shuhaib was also involved in recent clashes between student wings of the CPM and the Congress.

"The attack exposes the fascist face of the CPI (M)".

The incident occurred late last night when four assailants came in a auto and hurled crude bombs and attacked the victim and two other party members with machetes.

While the survivors of the attack allege that the crime was committed by CPI (M) workers, the Left leadership has denied the charges.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident and further investigations were on, the police said. The police suspect it could be related to the incidents of violence in the area last week. "Since then the CPI (M) had announced publicly that his days are numbered".

Meanwhile, the Congress has announced a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district today against yesterday's attack. "Criminal gangs are having a field day (in Kannur) using the political muscle of their bosses. It is shocking that it happened again in Kannur, the native place of CM Pinarayi Vijayan", said opposition leader Ramesh Cehnnithala of Congress, adding that the CPI (M) was annihilating political opponents steadily.

"But what we are told is that our party has no role in it", said Jayarajan.

"The police in Kannur is a mute spectator, as the CPI-M is in control of everything".
