Winnipeg Jets advance to Western Conference Final with convincing win over Nashville

After beating up on the Minnesota Wild 4 games to 1, the Jets have met their match in the Predators.

Nashville coach Peter Laviolette, 5-2 in Game 7s, is one of only four National Hockey League coaches to win a Game 7 in each of four different playoff rounds (Pat Burns, Mike Keenan and John Tortorella).

Washington gets to the Stanley Cup Final, and prepares for even more drama. And after knocking off the favourite in clinical fashion, the Jets should be considered the new favourite in the NHL's final four. Nashville Coach Peter Laviolette pulled Rinne for Juuse Saros, trying to snap the Predators out of a slow start while saving his timeout.

The Winnipeg Jets have a chance to advance to the conference finals for the first time in franchise history.

Scheifele then iced it into an empty net to take the outright lead in playoff goal-scoring with his 11th, including seven against the Predators, as Winnipeg picked up its third regulation victory of the series in Nashville - where the Predators were 25-9-7 in the regular season.

"It's just another game for all of us".

The Nashville Predators and the Winnipeg Jets face off for a winner-take-all Game 7 of the NHL's Western Conference Semis. The Jets host Game 1 on Saturday night amid the seventh Whiteout of the spring. That's indicative of how tight game seven may be. "It's tough. I can't point to anything". "We're only halfway. We haven't done anything yet".

The eventual Stanley Cup champion in each of the past five seasons has won a Game 7 along the way. No team has won consecutive games, so does that mean a Winnipeg win? They went 1-2 at Bell MTS Place. But now, the Preds have to keep things in check as they take the ice for a crucial game in front of what should be an electric home crowd. Their young guns slumped at times.

"We are just thrilled and we're pretty pleased to knock off a team like Nashville", Wheeler said. "What a great team they are".

The Predators end the season with President's Trophy, given to the team with the most points at the end of the regular season.

"It's attractive. If they make the Cup, that'll be out of this world", Trygvason said. The vets were there to help them through it.

Nashville's JOFA line of Ryan Johansen, Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson combined for eight points in keeping the Predators alive with a 4-0 win in Game 6. It must be in his blood.

City of Clarksville invites Predators fans to join Game 7 festivities at Wilma Rudolph Event Center, Thursday.

Compared that with his regular season stats and there is quite a difference.

NOTES: Scheifele scored seven goals in Nashville, setting a record for most road goals in one postseason series. His 11 are three more than Alex Ovechkin. Forsberg scored 2 goals in Game 6 and will be vying for another productive night.

The home teams have not fared well in this series, but I expect that to change here.

There was a certain relaxed vibe around the Jets, one that you would have instead expected from the defending Stanley Cup finalist Predators.

"And you know what?"
