Why the West REALLY hates North Korea - and it isn't nuclear weapons

The Vice President also said the USA government would continue to pile pressure on Kim Jong Un to abandon his nuclear missile program and that Washington would do all within its powers to protect herself and her allies in the region.

But Howard noted South Korea does not have such rules.

CNN said she was "stealing the show", while The Washington Post called her the "Ivanka Trump of North Korea" in one headline.

Despite renewed threats of nuclear aggression from the North, the Olympics is offering the chance at diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula.

I had just come from Washington, where the perception of North Korea as both a serious threat to USA security and as a barbarous dictatorship is deepening.

Seoul's $2.5 million did not go to funding the attendance of DPRK leader Kim Jong-un's younger sister and senior regime officials at the games' opening ceremony, according to reports. The Koreans still are looking for their first Olympic win.

The late leader's birthday is a national holiday in North Korea and is dubbed as the "Day of the Shining Star".
