Why? Robert Hodges kills West Sacramento wife's three children

Hodges was arrested by a California Highway Patrol officer without incident about midnight later that night near Interstate 80 and West El Camino Avenue.

West Sacramento police received a domestic violence call just after 9:20 p.m.at an apartment complex, Sgt. Roger Kinney said.

Another call came in reporting that the children might have died while police were on their way to the apartment, Kinney said.

When police responded, they discovered the three children and immediately began to perform life-saving measures. Authorities said Hodges, who is the children's father, was detained without incident. A lady was additionally found at the scene and is in contact with police. He said the mother was close by when the killings occurred but didn't witness them.

Although police have not released the identities of the young victims, Aiello confirmed that the couple had an 11-year-old boy, a nine-year-old girl and another boy who was born in January.

Authorities have not revealed how the children lost their lives, nor have they provided any additional information on Hodges' arrest.

The mother had been choked and Hodges was not far behind her. The children were killed Wednesday evening, and their father Robert Hodges has been arrested in the deaths that followed a domestic violence altercation with his wife.

"She came running out of the door, and she's screaming, 'Help me, help me, '" said the neighbor, who asked to only be identified as Latoya.

He continued: "It's horrific and it's very hard to deal with".

Hodges did not attend a vigil in support of her and her children held at Southport Elementary School on Thursday night, saying through a family spokeswoman that she is going through great turmoil.

"I was in my apartment all the time. I was watching my movies and I didn't hear nothing", Bustamante said. Together, we grieve this loss.

William Crawford had a friendly relationship with his neighbors across the hall the entire time they lived there, about seven years, he said Thursday.
