What do industry experts make of Google's new phones?

Google has unveiled its new flagship smartphones, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL, as it looks to keep pace with Apple's iPhone. This feature allows your phone to answer for you and is transcribed for you on your screen. Similarly, Pixel 3 XL 64GB which has a larger screen and a better processor will be available in India for just ₹83,000 while the 128GB variant of the Pixel 3 XL will be available for ₹92,000.

During its 9 October 2018 "Made by Google" hardware launch event, Google confirmed that the Home Hub would be available to pre-order direct from the company's website today.

"We're eagerly awaiting the arrival of Pixel into New Zealand though Spark has no current plans to stock the Google Pixel 3 at this stage, we're always working with our partners to bring a broad range of devices to the New Zealand market".

Google calls the Google Pixel Slate a completely new experience.

Indeed, Google Home Hub is the best device on which to manage all your various smart home tech through a single interface, and it supports more than 2 million devices from over 1,000 brands. That's not all, though, the company also said that this new pattern "will represent navigation on all Android phones going forward", which basically means that Google plans to do away with on-screen buttons altogether.

Google is trying to end telemarketer calls on smartphones through a new Android feature named "Call Screen". While Smart TVs come with Chromecast or other built-in casting technology, regular TVs need external devices, and Amazon's Fire TV stick and Google's Chromecast are quite popular.

"We wanted the look and feel of these to be different", says Ivy Ross, vice president of design for all of Google's hardware products.

Humorously the Google presenter was quick to point out that they purposely didn't add a camera to the new Google Home Hub for privacy reasons. You see, your hands are never perfectly still as you take a photo. The display measures 7-inches, and features an Ambient EQ light sensor to adjust the display brightness according to the available light in the room. It'll arrive first to the US, UK, and Australia, and it'll come with six free months of YouTube Premium. Google says that Hub will simplify your home and life.

Like any Google Home speaker, you can interact with the Home Hub using a variety of voice commands. I did get to check out Google's gimmicky AR stickers, though, which insert cartoon characters or Marvel superheroes into your photos. They also introduced Live Albums to Google Photos which is created to make Hub a great place to see your photos. A self-contained camera will use a wide-angle lens to accommodate more people, the so-called super-epidemic function. You can also share those Live Albums from Hub with others. It's available for pre-order now and slated to hit store shelves at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, and other retailers on October 22. If you have experience with the new XS camera in low light and think Google missed the boat, then send in your comments below.
