Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave Everton, says Sam Allardyce

Rooney, 32, played with Everton as an 18-year-old before spending 13 seasons with Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney has reportedly told Everton he wants to join Major League Soccer side DC United this summer.

"My understanding of the situation is that there seems to have been some negotiations somewhere along the line", Allardyce said in a news conference before training on Friday.

DC United head coach Ben Olsen reveals that he is interested in signing Wayne Rooney from Everton. Only when I speak to him today I'll find out where the situation lies.

"But let's put this right, Wayne Rooney has not asked to leave and neither not had a confrontation with me". The former England manager, however, insisted no player could be guaranteed minutes on the pitch regardless of who is in charge. "Whether they can or can't is another matter", Akkardyce said.

Everton's English striker Wayne Rooney controls the ball during the English Premier League football match between Chelsea and Everton at Stamford Bridge in London. Victory against West Ham on Sunday will guarantee them an eighth-place finish, a position that seems to reflect a decent campaign, but the sacking of Ronald Koeman in October and criticism of the team's style of play under Allardyce tell the truer story of nine months of poor performances and even worse recruitment. "I don't want to create the headline".

"How can anyone be guaranteed playing time next season?" asked Allardyce. If they don't play well you can't select them and if they do play well they stay in the team.

"He (Rooney) has had an impact at Everton, yes, in a hard time for the squad and the turnaround last summer but we've all come through that - Wayne included".

'I am always comfortable if any player player wants to leave or if any player doesn't want to leave. "I have a one-year contract", he said.

Allardyce and Rooney have had their differences and the player's show of dissent when substituted in April's Merseyside derby resulted in clear-the-air talks between the pair. That's it. Next season is already planned.
