WAFU Cup: Eagles beat Benin 1-0, qualify for final

The other semifinal tie will be between Ghana and Niger Republic also on Thursday.

Midfielder Rabiu Ali was Eagles' match-winner.

A solitary first half strike from Rabiu Ali handed Nigeria a 1-0 win over a ten-man Benin at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Thursday evening. They appear to have another chance to take their pound of flesh from the Nigerian team on a neutral ground.

"It won't be an easy game because the CHAN qualifier they played some months back was also very competitive and it will still be this time around".

The Akwa United star midfielder revealed that it was a traumatic time for him when Nigeria lost for the first time ever at full global level to the Benin team.

"So, it will be great for me to score against the same team on our way to the WAFU Cup final", observed Aremu wednesday.

Football Club, Yakubu Sadiq says last Monday's 2-0 victory over Ghana is an indication of Nigeria's return to the old days of glory. They will be eager to play with all they have.

"Before the match against Ghana, we created numerous scoring chances but failed to convert, hence the draws recorded against Guinea and Mali".

"I think the game against Nigeria was a hard one, but all the same I have to congratulate the boys for what they did even though we lost the game, they played through a lot of difficulties", said Konadu.

The win saw both Nigeria on five points, qualify alongside Ghana who had already booked their passage into the last four.
