While giving his example Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that even after studying in Hindi medium, he had been the state chief minister for twelve years, the agency added. "Using Hindi has won me the respect and appreciation of people everywhere".
"Hindi ... (is) the fourth most spoken language of the world". Hindi matr ek bhasha hai, yeh meri matrabhasha hai", which translates into: "Hindi is our pride and we are proud of Hindi.
In a tweet, Singh greeted all the Hindi followers and people associated with development and dissemination of Hindi language. "Languages always unite. My greetings on Hindi Diwas", the President said.
If Hindi speakers learn other Indian languages, it will help generate interest for Hindi language among non-Hindi speakers, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Thursday.
He said Hindi has the capacity to adopt from other Indian and foreign languages and dialect and this aspect should be taken full advantage of to popularise Hindi language.
It is celebrated because on this day in 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India had adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the official language of the Republic of India along with English.
