US Blocks UN Proposal to Investigate Israel Fire at the Gaza Border

China called on Israel to show restraint.

"Especially since President Erdogan was elected, the relations are very tense, with many ups and downs, whenever there is a small or a big crisis between Israel and Palestinians in general - and the Palestinians in Gaza in particular", he said.

Kuwait called a meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday to discuss the Gaza violence, which it blamed on Israel. He also stated that the USA embassy was a "new settlement" in Jerusalem, as reported by Israeli daily Haaretz.

Monday's border confrontation was the culmination of a weeks-long protest campaign to break a border blockade that Israel and Egypt imposed after a Hamas took over Gaza by force in 2007. In a speech at the embassy opening, Trump's son-in-law, senior adviser Jared Kushner, said the United States "is prepared to support a peace agreement in every way we can".

A Turkish government minister and spokesman, Bekir Bozdag, also accused Israel's most powerful ally, the United States, of helping fuel Palestinian outrage by moving the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Even though the IDF dropped leaflets in Gaza warning the residents well in advance not to approach the fence and not to allow Hamas to exploit their families, they ignored the warning; at least 2400 Gazans were injured, including many who were hit by gunfire, while trying to aid terrorists in their quest to breach the barrier and attack Israelis. Meanwhile, Israel's military operations in Syria due to the threatening Iranian presence close to its borders have also been a matter of concern for Ankara recently, as has been the USA decision to pullout from the nuclear deal with Iran, agitated by Israeli discomfort.

Turkey expelled Israel's ambassador, and Israel expelled the Turkish consul-general in Jerusalem. A group of protesters were seen burning the Israeli flag at the demo.

Thus far, Gaza's ruling Hamas terrorist organization has officially acknowledged 10 of the approximately 62 dead as members of its group.

Israel isn't a U.N. Security Council member, nor are the Palestinians.

On Tuesday the number of protesters gathered at the frontier was estimated by the Israeli army at 4,000, well down on Monday.

Former Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher, now senior vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told Arab News that the killing of Palestinian protesters, coupled with the move of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, shows why "Israel can not be trusted" to bring about peace in the region. The move has been roundly condemned by Palestinian leadership and other world leaders, as East Jerusalem - under Israeli occupation since 1967 - has been recognized as the capital of a future Palestinian state by the worldwide community.

"It is in everyone's interests for peace and stability to prevail in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories". The protest was organised by Belgian peace organisations in association with the Palestinian community.

Afghani called the peace process, ongoing since the 1990s, "deceptive", and said Israelis have been continuously settling Palestinian land.

"[Macron] expressed his very deep concern about the situation in Gaza, condemned the violence and underlined the importance of protecting civilian populations and of the right to protest peacefully", the French president's office said in a statement.
