With the way Alabama has been playing this decade, that might just require the Longhorns to crack the College Football Playoff over the next three years.
In the first game of the series, Alabama will travel to face Texas at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin on September 10, 2022. But knock on wood, perhaps Texas can find away to meet Nick Saban & Co. before then - and claim some noteworthy hardware in the process. The two teams first met in Tuscaloosa in 1902.
Last month, Alabama announced a future home-and-home series with Notre Dame for the 2028-29 seasons, with the Tide traveling to South Bend, Indiana on September 2, 2028, and the Fighting Irish coming to Tuscaloosa on September 1, 2029. The Longhorns own the 3rd most wins overall with 898 and the Crimson Tide is 5th overall with 891 wins. Another shuffle in the Longhorns' future schedule impacts the planned series with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The last meeting on either school's home field was in 1922, when Alabama traveled to Austin. In particular, Alabama has played in big nonconference games to start each of the last six seasons at a neutral site. "The Crimson Tide and Longhorns have played a lot of memorable games over the years and the addition of this home-and-home series will be great for not only our fans, but fans of college football". "We had Penn State home-and-home a few years ago, we've got the Texas game, we are working on some other games - I think Notre Dame later on".
