Ted Cruz Blames Donald Trump for 'Garbage' National Enquirer Story

After The National Enquirer reported that Ted Cruz had extramarital affairs with five women, Trump supporter Adriana Cohen spread the tabloid story into the mainstream media when she confronted one of the alleged mistresses, CNN's Amanda Carpenter, live on the air.

"Let me be clear: This National Enquirer story is garbage", Cruz said, unprompted by questions from any reporters, in an on-camera statement in Wisconsin, where the candidate is campaigning before the April 5 primary there.

Walker called for Republicans to consolidate around alternatives to Trump when he dropped out last September, and on Wednesday he suggested in a local radio interview that he would back Cruz after Easter. Trump took to Twitter and urged Cruz to "be careful", and threatened to "spill the beans on your wife".

Trump then followed that up with a retweet seemingly digging at Heidi Cruz's physical appearance. "I think Heidi is the most beautiful, brilliant, amazing, fantastic, loving mom, an incredible wife and she's my best friend in the whole world and I love you with all of my heart". "Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought", Cruz said. "Carry on..." she wrote on Twitter.

That message and others have prompted an outcry among Republicans and Democrats alike, while Cruz said Thursday that "real men don't bully women".

Asked if he plans to vote for Trump should he win the GOP nomination, Cruz says, "I don't make a habit of supporting people who attack my wife and my family". If I were the head of Cruz's campaign, I would somehow work this into a campaign ad. Vampires are still a hot commodity and this is the closest he's going to get to an endorsement from Robert Pattinson. Should we really be surprised given the recent "hand size" scuffle featured at a GOP debate between front runner (how said is it to say those words!) Donald Trump and former candidate Mark Rubio?

Private investigators are looking into Cruz's private life and have told National Enquirer they're investigating at least five women Cruz has allegedly had sexual relations with.

"He sits in Trump Tower and sends tweets late at night", said Cruz.

"Spilling the beans on Heidi Cruz simply means that her career has been spent working against everything Ted Cruz says that he stands for", Pierson concluded in the MSNBC interview.

Our Principles PAC, another anti-Trump group, is also planning a major advertising campaign there, hoping to capitalize on some of Trump's struggles in the Midwest - particularly Ohio, won by Kasich, the home state governor. But you mess with my wife, you mess with my kids, that'll do it every time.

This story has been corrected to show that former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has endorsed Ted Cruz, not Donald Trump.
