Microsoft's personal assistant, Cortana, has finally found its way to Skype. In other words, Cortana can provide all kinds of practical and in-context information, such as weather forecasts, travel information and directions, movie times, nearby restaurants, etc.
We've seen digital assistants being integrated into our conversations with loved ones and colleagues, with the intention of making our lives easier.
AI assistant Cortana is now available on Skype, Microsoft announced today.
Users will be able to start a private chat with MicrosoftCortana in Skype as well.
Cortana will initially roll out only to the Skypemobile app (for Android and iOS), only in the United States of America and only for text-based messaging - not for voice or video calls. You can check if it's ready for you by going to the Skype Google Play page. "You can also ask Cortana to check your flight status, give you a stock quote, or suggest the best restaurants in your area", said the Skype Team.
These smart replies will appear above where you are typing your message. It will also give you smart replies so you don't even need to type out what you want to say. You can scroll through the responses and select the appropriate one.
Cortana on Skype has been implemented in two ways by Microsoft. "So now, you can have natural conversations in one-on-one chats with Cortana".
The digital assistant will also pick up on when you're scheduling something like an event, and offer to remind you of the event nearer the time (across all your Cortana-infused devices, naturally). Without leaving Skype, you can set the reminder and be alerted at the appropriate time on all your devices that have Cortana enabled. Just like with other assistants, you have to use it a lot so it can understand your digital behavior.
