Samsung Electronics Forecasts Operating Profit Growth at 5% in Second Quarter

Every major mobile phone maker is expected to come up with a foldable device in 2019, and latest rumors point out that Microsoft is nearly ready to unveil its model.

As for Apple's other phones, the iPhone X remained steady from April to May retaining 2.3% of the global smartphone sales market share - this kept it in third place.

The smartphone market has been slowing down in recent quarters.

"It is going to be tough".

However, either way, it looks like Samsung will be launching three flagship smartphones in 2019, similar to Apple's expected plan to unveil three new iPhone models this year.

Various reports are claiming that Samsung might launch the Galaxy S10 in January, while the Galaxy X foldable smartphone will launch in February.

CHIPPING AWAY While the smartphone business struggles, Samsung's profits are being driven by strong global sales of DRAM and NAND chips which account for about a third of its revenue. It will disclose detailed results in late July. The forecast is slightly below the 14.9 trillion won analyst average estimate in a Thomson Reuters poll.

Samsung, which has reported record profits for every quarter in the past 12 months, on Friday released its earnings guidance for the second quarter of 2018.

The original report also indicates that the unlocked variant of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 also stopped by at the FCC with a model number of SM-N960U, with support for all of the major wireless carriers in the United States.

The high cost of chips has hurt many electronics makers, with Chinese manufacturers among the hardest hit as they operate at lower margins than rivals.
