Rizzo cranks three-run homer as part of big inning for Cubs

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jose Quintana (62) throws a pitch against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

The Cubs led 9-2 at the time of Baez's injury.

Any team with Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Jon Lester and Yu Darvish will be able to hang around in contention.

Bryant hit his 100th career homer, Rizzo and Russell connected in an eight-run third inning, and the Cubs pounded the Miami Marlins 13-4 on Wednesday.

But they've done it without a couple mainstays.

A five-time Gold Glove victor, Heyward banged his head against the right-field wall trying to rob Dexter Fowler of a game-ending homer at St. Louis on Sunday. Realmuto, who went 2-for-4 in the finale against the Reds, has hit safely in 14 of his 16 games this season. The Cubs determined the best option was to place Heyward on the disabled list, retroactive to Monday.

"When that heartbreak loss comes, we feel it just as much". I ran and stretched, talked to the trainers, talked to Joe (Maddon). "I thought it was wise (to wait)". The right-hander allowed four runs in five innings, with two of the runs unearned on a day when the Cardinals matched their season worst with three errors. He is 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA in his first season with the Cubs. Our (players) care a lot and we know they're pressing and we know it's not going to last forever. Mattingly told reporters, according to the Miami Herald.

Miami's Justin Bour homered in a three-run first against Jen-Ho Tseng. "Not the best circumstances for him, but obviously I expect him to be better than that".

That included an over-the-shoulder catch in shallow center in the top of the third, followed by a leadoff double and a two-run homer in the bottom half as the Cubs batted around against Marlins left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. The Marlins are 2-7 in their last nine against the National League Central, 18-40 in their last 58 on the road against winning opponents, 1-10 in Urena's last 11 starts, 0-4 in his last four starts against the National League Central, 0-7 in his last seven starts on five days of rest, and 7-1 in their last eight on the road against the Cubs.
