Rick Porcello mocked CC Sabathia while complimenting umpire Angel Hernandez

With the Boston Red Sox leading the host New York Yankees 4-1 before the bottom of the ninth inning Tuesday night, a fan in the stands threw a beer can toward Kimbrel, who was heading out of the bullpen toward the field.

"He's absolutely bad. He was awful behind the plate today", Sabathia told reporters after the game, per Tim Healey of Newsday. During Game 3, Hernandez had three calls overturned by replay, which was the latest chapter in a career that has featured plenty of complaints from players on how he calls games. "He was awful behind the plate (Tuesday)".

Sabathia only surrendered two walks in the game, and Hernandez wasn't bad with his strike zone. "It's fantastic how he's getting jobs umpiring in these playoff games". "But he shouldn't be around these playoff games".

Sabathia continued to express his frustration, adding that it was "sad" that Hernandez was chosen as the umpire for playoff games. His opponent, Cole, posted similar stats in his two starts (one win, one no-decision) against the Sox, pitching 13 innings, striking out 15, and allowing five runs.

Hernandez, a 57-year-old born in Cuba, filed a racial discrimination lawsuit against Major League Baseball in 2017, claiming he has been passed over for promotions and postseason assignments.

Since the filing, Hernandez has been chosen to work the 2017 All-Star Game and games in each of the last two postseasons.
