Redmi Note 5 first impression: A value for money option

Along with the Redmi Note 5, Xiaomi also unveiled the Note 5 Pro in India.

10- Given the low price - it's less than half of what a 55-inch TV with HDR screen costs in India - expect a mad rush for the Xiaomi Mi TV 4 when it goes on sale.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 carries a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel. The front camera on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a 20MP camera with Beautify 4.0.

Let's closely analyse the photos but before then, here's the camera configuration.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 sports a 12-megapixel rear camera with an aperture of f/2.2, a 1.25-micron pixel size, PDAF, EIS, and an LED flash module. The bokeh effect is well utilised in the sample photo above where the "No Parking Zone" signpost was captured clearly while the surrounding areas were blurred out. The Redmi Note 5 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with the Adreno 506 graphics while the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the newer and faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset while retaining the same Adreno 506 GPU.

The front camera sports a LED-selfie light for better photography in low light.

However, the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus) are not very different in terms of specifications, and even share the same processor, software, RAM and storage.

The device runs Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and is topped with the company's own MIUI 9.

Given the key specifications, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is superior to the Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi Note 5 - from display to processor to RAM to storage to camera. With the new processor and the all new optics, can this Redmi phone actually eat into the sales of more expensive phones like the OnePlus 5T?

It is powered by a 4000mAh battery, with fast charging.

The price of the Redmi Note 5 is especially reasonable, compared to the Redmi Note 4 which is now priced at Rs 10,999 for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant.

The same four colors are on offer for the Pro: Black, Gold, Blue and Rose gold. The company has announced the launch of its most awaited device Redmi Note 5 along with many other products. For selfies, there's a whopping 20 MP front-facing camera. The device has a dual camera setup at the back with 12MP+5MP sensors. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in a single storage variant - 64GB - which is expandable via microSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM format.

Both, the Redmi Note 5 as well as the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the same 5.99-inch display and have the FullHD+ resolutions while the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a slightly better contrast ratio at 1500:1 vs 1000:1 found on the Redmi Note 5 according to the spec sheet.
