Rebekah Mason announces her resignation from Bentley's cabinet as he tours state

On Wednesday, Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle, said he intends to carry articles of impeachment to remove Bentley from office. Meanwhile, Bentley and Mason are both under examination by the state Ethics Commission.

If lawmakers don't believe that statement, they could impeach Bentley and remove him from office. It also allows a majority of the House membership to convene a session to "consider" impeachment of an official if the Legislature is not in session.

FILE -In this Tuesday, March 22, 2011 file photo Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, center, arrives for a news conference at the Alabama Capitol in Montgomery, Ala.

Recordings dating back to August 2014 and featuring Bentley, who was a deacon in the church, telling his political adviser Rebekah Mason that he loves her were released on March 28, prompting the response from the church, according to WFLA.

The Christian Examiner confirmed that Bentley has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Prattville since previous year. Bentley and Mason have denied the allegations.

What Gov. Bentley did has hurt a lot of people. I have apologized to the family of Mrs. Mason.

Spencer Collier made the claims last week, one day after the governor fired him as Secretary of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. "But you know, that's life and we forgive people and we love people". Leadership in both chambers have declined to comment on the problems engulfing the governor, and the state Constitution leaves questions about the impeachment process unanswered. "There is nothing that can be handled right now until we can get rid of this governor that is occupying this seat right now", said Ford. There are business owners and leaders of industry who don't want to sit down with this governor because of the image of corruption that has engulfed the state. "And it's just real discouraging because we try every day to bring new jobs to Alabama and he ran on jobs and now he's costing Alabama jobs". The governor has provided our competitors with an unfair advantage, and it is absolutely costing us economically. We're still sick, and our doctor needs a doctor of his own. I would now like to apologize to the people of Alabama. He has hurt his own family, and many others. Unlike federal law, which normally requires laws to be broken for removal, Alabama is more broad.

The Alabama Legislature returns from its spring break next week.

In one reported phone call, the governor told Mason: "You'd kiss me?"
