Pep Guardiola sanctions sale of £30 million superstar to Manchester United

Florian Lejeune had been linked with a move to the Magpies for much of the summer, but Newcastle fans would have been forgiven for wondering if they would ever actually see a deal over the line as it dragged on and on with no resolution.

The 26-year-old central defender from La Liga club Eibar is Magpies manager Rafael Benitez's second summer signing, for a reported 8.7 million pounds (9.9 million euros).

The Paris-born centre-back was snapped up by Manchester City in 2015, but was sent straight on loan to Spanish side Girona, from where he joined Eibar just a year later.

The report adds that the Red Devils have identified Hart as the #1 target to replace current goalkeeper David De Gea, should the Spaniard join Spanish giants Real Madrid during the transfer window.

After his arrival, he said: "I'm very happy to have signed. Newcastle United is a big club, and I'm very happy to be here", Lejeune told Newcastle's official website.

"I would like to welcome Florian to Newcastle United.

Newcastle United is a big club, and I'm very happy to be here", Lejeune said during his presentation at St. James' Park. He is a player that has done very well this year in Spain.

Lejeune featured 37 times for Eibar last season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process. I have known about him for a while, since he began playing for Villarreal.

"If he settles well into English football then I am sure he will be a success and will give us a lot of competition in this area".
