OR measles cases rises to 4 as Vancouver-area reaches 50

Measles can progress to include serious complications and even death, especially in young children, so this is serious stuff.

The Oregon Legislature will likely take a look at ways to tighten the state's immunization rules in the wake of the Pacific Northwest measles outbreak, Brown said, although she didn't point to any specific proposal.

As the count of people with measles climbs toward 50, Clark County Public Health announced a short reprieve.

Fifty-one of the confirmed measles cases are in southwest Washington, one is in the Seattle area and four are in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area.

In 2017, Texas Health and Human Services released its report of student vaccinations, showing overall Texas schools reported high rates of coverage for each vaccine but kindergarten students reported slightly lower coverage due to personal beliefs.

The United States outbreaks, which are defined as 3 or more cases, are in New York State, New York City and Washington State.

Mr. Van Deusen added in an email, 'Measles is so contagious that if someone has it, 90 percent of the people around that person who are not immune could become infected'.

At least 5 measles cases have been reported in Harris, Montgomery and Galveston Counties.

Officials said the recently diagnosed residents stayed home and limited contact with other people.

"This is a reminder for people to be on guard and be up to date on their vaccinations", said Dr. Umair A. Shah, executive director for Harris County Public Health.

Five new measles cases have been confirmed in the Houston area and the diagnoses have launched investigations into the origins of each illness.

The United States is now facing not one but three measles outbreaks, and once again the main culprit is people's refusal to get vaccinated. "If you haven't gotten immunized, get an immunization to protect you and those around you". Last year there were 372 cases and this year, as of January 31, the Center for Disease Control has confirmed 79 cases. Other collected outbreaks of highly and deadly contagious, but vaccine-preventable diseases are turning exasperatingly routine across the country.
