NBC is going for the gold this year and offering up an extensive live stream of the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, in virtual reality for USA pay-TV subscribers.
However, the International Olympic Committee has said it will consider offering wildcards to North Korean athletes.
The Torch-bearing opening ceremony took place on 16 December 2017 in Seoul, capital of South Korea, and countries from across the world were represented at the ceremony.
This offer comes on the heels of a landmark deal between the warring nations that allows North Korea to send a delegation of athletes, fans, and high-ranking government officials to the South for the upcoming Olympics in Pyeongchang. The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics averaged 21.4 million prime-time viewers, down 12% from the 2010 Vancouver Games.
On Friday, the South proposed to hold follow-up talks the following Monday. The reply came days after North Korean leader Kim Jong-un warned the United States that "the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office".
The Pyeongchang Olympic Games are less than a month away, and American athletes are getting ready to go for the gold.
A total of 99 countries have confirmed their intent to join the Games, including North Korea, with more than 6,500 athletes expected to compete.
"We made various proposals including the fielding of a joint women's ice hockey team and a joint march into the Olympic stadium", South Korea's vice-sports minister Roh Tae Kang said, according to Yonhap. Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Content: Viewers will be able to tour the Olympic venues.
Hwang also outlined that "Pyeong" means peace and "chang" prosperity, in a Games South Korea hopes will provide a powerful message for peace and reconciliation.
