At least one person in IL is waking Saturday up a Mega Millions jackpot victor. "We've sold probably 20 tickets in an hour and they're coming in and they're buying multiplier tickets". Tickets cost $1 apiece.
The jackpot resets to $15 million ($9 million cash) for the next drawing on Tuesday, August 15. Cracking the top 10 for Powerball would require the jackpot to exceed the $425.3 million prize the game awarded to a single victor in February 2014.
The jackpot started April 28 and rolled over 30 times.
The payout is the largest in almost a year and the fifth largest in the game's 15-year history, according to lottery officials.
The Mega Millions lottery is offered in 44 states. A player wins the jackpot by matching all six winning numbers in a drawing.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions is 258.9 million to one, a very slim amount. For Powerball, the figure stands at one in about 292.2 million.
