National Football League free agency rumors: TE Trey Burton to sign with Bears

Burton is coming off consecutive solid seasons operating as Zach Ertz's backup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

First up was the addition of Allen Robinson, with the Bears agreeing to terms with the young wide receiver on a pricey but not prohibitive three-year contract.

According to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Burton has signed a four-year deal with the Bears.

Burton is now joining a Bears team under the direction of second-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. But he tore the ACL in his left knee on Jacksonville's third play of the season and had surgery the following week. Chicago will hope Burton fares better, and he has a good shot under new coach Matt Nagy, who heavily utilized tight ends during his time with the Chiefs.

Robinson had a strong training camp past year and looked like he would be an integral part of the offense. The Jaguars went on to win the AFC South and advance to the conference title game. He posted 37 catches for 327 yards and one touchdown in 2016 and 23 receptions for 248 yards and five scores in 2017. He made five grabs for 71 yards and two touchdowns with Ertz sidelined due to a concussion, flashing his playmaking upside when thrust into a bigger role.

Parkey doesn't have a huge leg, with only seven attempts beyond the 50-yard line and a long of 54 in his first four seasons in the league, but he is among the NFL's most accurate kickers, having hit six of those seven from 50-plus yards and 86.4 percent of his 88 attempts overall. General manager Ryan Pace staked his reputation to the quarterback by trading up a spot with San Francisco past year to draft him with the No. 2 overall pick. The question now becomes - what do the Bears do with him and Shaheen together?
