The White House earlier this year invited Duterte to the White House, a move that drew widespread criticism from human rights groups and congressional Democrats.

Duterte has been very fond of Trump, commending the United States leader for not criticizing his drug war for the alleged cases of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) and human rights violations. The White House has suggested the president may designate North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.
