Microsoft Lumia 950 XL: More Reason To Get One Now

It is known that Fast Ring updates are unpredictable and full of bugs and when users report them, Microsoft makes sure that they are fixed before the update reaches millions of users. Beyond this update for the wearable, we also see progress on the monitoring side of things, as a desktop Windows 10 Microsoft Health app joins the existing mobile editions. Here, the timetable Microsoft has in mind reveals an RTM+90 period, or 90 days after RTM launch, that starts July 29 and ends October 28.

There are also some rumors that suggest Microsoft may consider offering Windows 10 as a service, where the OS would be free for anyone to download and install while the company would generate revenue from advertising. Figure A shows the layout of promoted app tiles before the Anniversary Update changes and Figure B shows after.

As for the update that will bring the support for fingerprint scanners to Windows 10 Mobile, it is named the Anniversary Update.

Redmond says that all PCs running Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1, and servers running Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2012 will begin getting the monthly updates. The second part, Redstone 2 or RS2, has no release date, although there's talk that it won't appear until early next year, along with new Microsoft-branded hardware.

Convenience Rollups A convenience rollup apparently is a new patch term from Microsoft. Once that day passes, Microsoft customers will be forced to shell out $120 for Windows 10 Home or $200 for Windows 10 Pro. It's only possible to download files from the Microsoft Update Catalog by using Internet Explorer 6 or later versions.

While this update is a nice fix to a long-standing issue, Windows 10 does now allow users to actively specify what times are best suited for restarting the computer after an update.

Users will also soon be able to redirect certain Web sites to open with apps instead. There's no analogous update for Windows 8.1, as yet. Microsoft said it is discontinuing Wi-Fi Sense because "the cost of updating the code to keep this feature working combined with low usage and low demand made this not worth further investment".
