Manchester City Demolish Chelsea, Tottenham Stay In Premier League Title Hunt

It may have taken nearly two years, but Chelsea fans finally have the quality striker that they have been waiting on since the departure of Diego Costa in 2017.

They also remain in the FA Cup, facing Manchester United in the fifth round next Monday and are in the knockout stages of the Europa League, and sources at the club have indicated that they will be sticking with him.

A win for City moves them back top of the Premier League table while the manner and margin of the defeat sees Chelsea lose ground in the race for the top four.

City regained top spot from Liverpool in their title defence as 2017 champion Chelsea ended the weekend by dropping out of the Champions League places into sixth.

"Something is changing. At the moment I am not able to see the reason but I have to work for this because my target is to play my football, not to change another football because at the moment we are playing another football".

Sarri replaced Antonio Conte last summer but the situation have become worse and the Blues are on the edge of not qualifying for any continental competition next season. "You have to ask the club". At the beginning [of the season] it worked. Their lead is a slender one, and they have played a game more, but the manner of their latest victory, which improved their goal difference advantage over the Reds to 10, was a powerful message.

"Then I need to carry on, think about the team and try to score goals".

Yet, Sarri has also done little to stem the tide, steadfastly refusing to change his approach to the game.

"There are issues behind the scenes, a disconnect between first team and the fabulous academy, a lack of direction with no technical director and an owner looking to sell", wrote Henry Winter in The Times.

'If the president calls, I'll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him, ' he said.

"To be honest, I don't know what to expect".

City have now scored 33 goals in their last five home games in all competitions and have a chance of lifting their first silverware of the season when they face Chelsea again at Wembley in the League Cup final on February 24.

But win either of those games, or at least show signs of fight in them, and he could be allowed a stay of execution into the Premier League fixtures against Tottenham, Fulham and Wolves at the start of March.
