Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk: £75m price tag 'a big compliment'

Van Dijk replicated Carragher's feat of scoring on his debut at Anfield on Friday night, sealing the victor as the Reds advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup at Everton's expense.

Liverpool's defender, Virgil van Dijk, who recently joined Jürgen Klopp's team for £75 million (€84.5 million) from Southampton, acknowledged to Sky Sports website on Friday that the price of his signing is a "compliment" to his hard work and that does not make him "nervous".

Jamie Redknapp has said that the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool will guarantee the Merseyside club of a top four finish this season.

"I think the size of the club, the fans, the players, the manager, the whole package here is awesome", the centre back told Carragher.

Van Dijk will be hoping to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds return to Premier League action on Sunday with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Anfield. "I can't change anything about that".

But Van Dijk is adamant the fee won't weight him down and actually sees the price as a "compliment", rather than something to put pressure on him.

Some football fans have questioned why the 26-year-old spurned the opportunity to seemingly win a league medal with Pep Guardiola's side in favor of a move to Anfield.

"You can see yourself that the atmosphere at every home game is incredible".

Gomez told the Mirror: "It's great for me personally, because he's one of the best in the world right now, long term if I want to play there then it's a great opportunity for me to learn and see what he does".
