Klopp: Mourinho is playing mind games

Liverpool have embarked on a massive summer of recruitment, bringing in Naby Keita, Fabinho, Xherdan Shaqiri and goalkeeper Alisson, to the tune of nearly £200 million.

Jurgen Klopp has said Jose Mourinho is trying to play mind games with Liverpool by suggesting they are under pressure to win the title this season following their huge spending spree.

"I heard he was smiling when he said it and he found it amusing", Klopp responded at his press conference in MI ahead of the two sides' International Champions Cup encounter. "I am not too interested in Man Utd". "I don't see City running away with it like they did last season".

"I didn't speak to anyone for a while, to be honest", he said.

Jürgen Klopp has dismissed José Mourinho's comments about Liverpool's high spending this summer, saying: "We're only responsible for our fans, for our owners, our supporters all over the world". We are not in the situation where we have to do something but if someone comes in we are always open for talks.

Shaw told The Times: "I don't think I would want to sign a contract right now because I want to prove to people that I deserve a contract". It happened last year and the year before but now we want to make the next step.

"Improvement means playing better football, being more consistent and entertaining the crowd in a very specific way - We are Liverpool and we stand for football".

"But the opponents don't sleep". We only feel a bit better prepared than previous year. The boys adapted to us and the atmosphere in the changing room is really nice.

"Even when I came to Liverpool I felt ready to play Premier League football. So we're really looking forward to it".

Keita did not train at Michigan Stadium on Friday, along with Loris Karius and Georginio Wijnaldum, although Klopp reiterated that the Guinean's injury is not a serious concern. "It's only a stiff neck but eight hours on that plane with the air conditioning, not comfortable enough for him".
