Jose Mourinho releases official statement over £40 million-rated target

Inter Milan winger Perisic has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, and Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News reported the Red Devils "have not ended their pursuit" of the Croatia worldwide.

Manchester United has been chasing the Inter winger for the entire transfer window, but the Red Devils have struggled to agree a fee with the Italian side.

Manchester United have been linked with a host of different players so far this summer but have only concluded deals to sign Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho had publicly criticised United's failure to sign players earlier this summer, regularly putting pressure on executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward who is tasked with leading United's negotiations in the transfer market.

Woodward is said to have re-opened discussions with the Croatia star's agent Fali Ramadani in a bid to finally get the deal over the line, according to a report in the Sunday Mirror.

Perisic created more clear-cut goal-scoring chances than any other player in Serie A last season and contributed with 11 goals and as many assists in 36 league games.

Croatia global Perisic looks set to stay at Inter after the Serie A side refused to budge from their £48.5 million valuation when he was linked with a move to United.

Mourinho was very keen on making Ivan Perisic his fourth and final signing of the summer, giving him the attacking mid/winger that he was looking for to fill out all of his designated position group needs.
