Japan's Nishioka reaches first ATP semi-final in Atlanta

Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka beat fourth-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov of the Ukraine 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 on Thursday to advance to the BB&T Atlanta Open quarterfinals. "I'm very happy. I'm hoping it gives me a lot of confidence for the next tournaments". "In a battle of power between the 6'10" Isner and the 6'11" Opelka, the older American more than doubles his junior on aces, firing 13 aces to 6 against Reilly Opelka.

"I gained a lot of confidence getting out of that and just getting into the match and getting on the scoreboard helped a lot". I did all the right things today and stayed calm. "I think that's why I'm winning more now".

The 20-year-old Nishioka will face Argentina's Horacio Zeballos, a 6-1, 6-4 victor over Germany's Tobias Kamke. Nishioka manages to save set point after a long rally in the eighth, but drops the ninth game to lose the opening frame after Kyrgios comes up with a 40-0 win.

The second set was identical to the first, with Nishioka breaking the Argentine in the opening game and only dropping three points on serve to clinch the match.

Kyrgios won an indoor event in Marseille, France, in February for his lone tour title. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Memphis Open five months ago.

After going down a break in the second set, Duan broke back and went on to take the second set. It was Nishioka┬┤s first semi-final of his career and ended his run of three straight wins in Atlanta.
