Here's your first look at Star Trek's first openly gay character

"I don't think we're looking for an endless, continuing nine or 10 year story".

After numerous delays and the departure of acclaimed showrunner Bryan Fuller - who recently said he originally envisioned the show as an anthology series akin to "American Horror Story" - the first two episodes of "Discovery" will premiere on CBS All-Access on September 24. "But then you look at things like: How does nudity play on Trek?". Originally, I thought CBS and Netflix would not be working together on something like this; however, it seems clear this could work out well for both networks.

Accompanying the three exclusive covers that were unveiled last week, Entertainment Weekly has now revealed a brand new batch of photos from Star Trek: Discovery that give us some fresh snaps of already familiar characters, as well as a few new details. Set a decade before the original series, Discovery's society won't be quite the utopian ideal that was seen when James T. Kirk (William Shatner) captained the USS Enterprise.

When it takes place: Goldsman said the show is set "in the prime universe", not that of the recent movies Kurtzman has co-produced.

I hope you guys are still into this. No stars or episode count have been announced yet, but the drama is said to explore "the intersection between genius and madness, science and science fiction". Which means, according to showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg, that Discovery will be going "hard PG-13", although it will still strive to be family friendly. Being a human raised by a Vulcan will impact Michael throughout the series, in fact it will play into some major decisions she makes at the onset of the series.

Star Trek is being brought back for the small screen courtesy of Star Trek: Discovery, and actor Shazad Latif was asked whether he prefers it to Star Wars. In addition to "Good Wife" spinoff "The Good Fight", All Access has almost 10,000 episodes of CBS series and movies. The rest of the episodes will be released exclusively on the streaming service. (Football overruns, as always, may affect the start time.) The premiere and a second episode will be available immediately on CBS All Access.

Stay tuned for more reports about new and returning shows, announcements and trends from the 2017 Television Critics Association summer press tour.
