‘He did a tremendous job:’ Green Bay Packers release LB Nick Perry

In 58 National Football League games, Smith has 119 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, 18.5 sacks, 52 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles and five passes broken up. The signings are according to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network.

Za'Darius Smith is getting the biggest deal: $66 million over four years with $34.5 million in the first two years, according to his agency, SportsTrust Advisors. Most recently, Rob Demovsky has reported the Packers have agreed to a deal with outside linebacker Preston Smith. Gone are safety Eric Weddle, linebackers C.J. Mosley and Terrell Suggs.

Although each contract looks to be a fair value given the talent level of each player, one signing appears to be the best value from the Packers' standpoint.

The Packers are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they went just 6-9-1 and missed the playoffs, marking the first time since 2006 that Green Bay had failed to qualify for the postseason in back-to-back years.

The Packers certainly aren't afraid to pay for upgrades. Perry had a five-year, $60 million contract.

As a result of their struggles, the Packers fired long-time head coach Mike McCarthy late in the season and eventually replaced him with Matt LaFleur in January.

The Packers announced today that Perry has been released after a disappointing season that ended with him on injured reserve with a knee injury. "He did a tremendous job on the field, was a great teammate and a true professional". That team's second-round pick in 2015 has been a 16-game starter each of the past three seasons and over that span has totaled 16.5 sacks, nine passes defensed, four interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries.
