Grace Millane: Missing British backpacker's last movements caught on CCTV

Grace Millane, from Wickford in Essex, had been in regular contact with family at home through the messaging app WhatsApp after she flew to Auckland a fortnight ago....

Miss Millane, who graduated from the University of Lincoln in September, had been travelling alone in New Zealand for two weeks, following a six-week group trip through South America.

She approximately 5ft 6in (168cm) in height, and 58 kg.

Beard said the man is a person of interest in the case, and they are conducting a scene examination at a unit in the hotel.

The CCTV image, taken at Auckland's Sky City entertainment complex, was taken at 7.15pm on Saturday and is the last known sighting of her.

Grace had been keeping touch with her family back home through instant messenger, but has not been heard from since December 1.

Her older brother said it was completely out of character for her not to be in contact with her family.

"It's important that anyone who recognises Grace from this photo or saw her on Saturday night contacts Police immediately on 09 302 6970".

"We are unable to make further comment while police are investigating the matter".

She was just sight-seeing and travelling around New Zealand.

"It was what she wanted - she wanted to see the world", Michael said.

They became anxious when she failed to reply to birthday messages on Sunday.

Her brother was not sure of her travel plans in New Zealand, but he knew she had a flexible itinerary booked to travel around most of the country.

She was last seen wearing a black dress with what is believed to be white Converse sneakers.

The young tourist had been staying at Base Backpackers on Auckland's Queen St.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said it is providing consular support to the family in the UK.

Mr Beard said police found some of Ms Millane's items at the backpackers she was staying at in the Auckland CBD but wouldn't divulge what the contents were.
