Google, Xiaomi announce Mi Box S Android TV streaming box

The smart TV streaming content box Mi Box was refreshed this week with the Mi Box S. This device comes from Xiaomi and delivers the newest in new Android TV software - Android TV 8.1. Ports include 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 power interface, 1 HDMI 2.0a, and 1 audio out.

The Mi Box S has the same internals as the Mi Box.

Background: To all purposes, the Mi Box S seems to be a rebranded version of the Mi Box 4 which launched in China back in January of this year, and is in itself only slightly different to the original Mi Box.

Unveiled alongside Google's subtly refreshed Chromecast, the Xiaomi Mi Box S goes after the likes of the Apple TV 4K with a substantially lower price tag.

The remote also features a new dedicated Netflix button and a live TV button right next to that.

Coming to the specs sheet of the Mi Box S, the device will be coming with Android 8.1 support and will be powered with a Quo-Core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU coupled with Mali 450 GPU.

And the best media streaming device you can buy is...

... At the Made by Google event, the covers were taken off of the newly designed Chromecast; Amazon followed that up with its new 4K Fire TV Stick, and Roku also recently revealed a new Premiere duo. Inside, the Mi Box S is nearly identical to the original Mi Box thanks to a core combination of 2GB RAM, 8GB storage, and an Amlogic S905X quad-core SoC. Preorders are already up for an October release, and it'll only cost you $59.99. You can pre-order it now from exclusive retailer Wal-Mart by clicking the button below.

According to the preorder listing on Walmart, the device will be available in early November. Sounds like the ideal holiday gift idea!
