When Gadot was originally announced as the recipient in December, the Association of National Advertisers - which sponsored the award - called her a "powerful voice advocating for women, not only on screen as the iconic Wonder Woman but in life as well".
This is not the first time the Lebanese have spoken out against Gadot though.
Saab's Instagram post saw some people share their frustration that a former member of the Israeli army would be promoted by the designer.
While Angelina Jolie turned heads in a rather feathered fashion, Nicole Kidman went full-on fuchsia in a stunning sheer Valentino gown. She commands the attention of the world and in doing so, she sends a positive example for humanity. And that's what makes her real. Don't ruin one the few things that make us proud Lebanese people!

Last year, Gadot's superhero film "Wonder Woman" was banned from Lebanese cinemas. There were eight other films in [the] top 100 which were directed by females. In her acceptance speech, she shared the award with "all the women and men who stand for what's right". "My promise and commitment to all of you is that I will never be silenced and we will continue to band together to make strides.for equality", she said to thunderous applause.
Alongside Gadots award, "Wonder Woman" received three Critics Choice nominations, for costume design, visual effects, and best action movie.
