Fox News anchor called Donald Trump 'dictator' before Kim meeting

The president made the remarks following a joint signing event with Kim. Kim, for his part, said the leaders had "decided to leave the past behind" and promised: "The world will see a major change".

The US President calls the meeting with North Korea's leader a "one time shot at peace". Trump praised Kim's love of his country, sizing up the strongman as "very talented". In response to shouted questions from reporters after his one-on-one meeting with the dictator, Trump beamed that the two leaders were already off to an "excellent relationship".

The two leaders then shared a 12-second handshake in the courtyard of the British-colonial style hotel against a backdrop of American and North Korean flags.

In the run-up to the meeting, Trump had predicted the two men might strike a nuclear deal or forge a formal end to the Korean War in the course of a single meeting or over several days.

"I feel really great", Trump said. "I think he wants to de-nuke, without that, there's nothing to discuss", he added. Kim Jong-un stands open-mouthed as an interpreter translates.

"It was not an easy path here", Kim said.

Should they succeed in making a diplomatic breakthrough, it could bring lasting change to the security landscape of Northeast Asia, like the visit of former US President Richard Nixon to China in 1972 led to the transformation of China.

The mislabeling occurred during a live broadcast of Trump deplaning from Air Force One in Singapore, where he has traveled to meet with actual dictator Kim Jong-un of North Korea.

The summit, which was nearly scrapped by a mercurial Trump last month, comes after a flurry of diplomatic activities and barrage of invective and insults traded between the US President and an equally aggressive Kim.

In a meeting that seemed unthinkable just months ago, the leaders met at a Singapore island resort, shaking hands warmly in front of a row of alternating US and North Korean flags.

Staff-level meetings between the United States and North Korea were going "well and quickly", Trump said in a message on Twitter on Tuesday.

Their agreement also included a commitment from Mr Kim to rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons. "I think he's going to start now".

The meeting marks the first ever meeting between a sitting North Korean leader and a USA president.

"Anthony, talk to us about this moment", Huntsman said.
