Ed Sheeran Tops Spotify's Most Streamed Artist List 2017

Ed Sheeran, enemy of TV writer Kara Brown, has surpassed Drake, our friend, on Spotify, becoming the most-streamed artist of 2017 with 6.3 billion plays overall. WTF?

The "Perfect" singer also holds the top spot for the biggest album of the year, Divide, with 3.1 billion streams and the top song, "Shape of You", with 1.4 billion streams.

Chief content officer Stefan Blom said: "Ed Sheeran absolutely dominated this year with the release of his record-breaking album, ÷".

Calling it the "year of Ed Sheeran" really explains a lot about 2017.

So now you can compare your own music taste to that of Australia's - which judging from the Spotify rankings, basically consisted of Sheeran and Drake's More Life. We'll see what extremes 2018 pushes us to.

Despacito - Remix, by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber, was named Spotify's Song Of The Summer.

In third place of the most listened to was The Weeknd, fourth place Kendrick Lamar and fifth place The Chainsmokers.

The most played track on Spotify in Australia over the previous year was "Shape Of You", closely followed by legit banger "Despacito" and Kendrick Lamar's 'HUMBLE'.
