It seems the show, titled Who Is America?, has been in production for a while: A newly-created Twitter account for Baron Cohen has today tweeted a first look at what he's been working on.
The clip also asks in text, "Imagine if Sacha Baron Cohen had been undercover secretly filming a newshow for a year". As spotted by our editors in Park Slope, Brooklyn this weekend, it appears Cohen's Showtime series will be called Who Is America?, and has a set premiere date for July 15. This is gonna be a good 'un.
It's shocking, until you remember that Cheney doesn't consider simulated drowning torture and is also a heartless ghoul, so of course he has no problem signing a "waterboard kit".
Cohen has a history with Trump, having duped the real estate magnate to do an on-camera interview with a ploy to pitch "Ice Cream Gloves" during a 2003 segment on Da Ali GShow.
"That's a first", Cheney says. "The creators won't let us show you a scene, the lawyers won't let us tell you the name of the star, and we can't even reveal the show's title or we'd be breaking or non disclosure agreement", it said in another recent promo video.
Cheney has been vocal about his support for extreme interrogation techniques, including waterboarding, saying in a May interview with Fox that he believes the discontinued methods should be reinstated.
Promotions for the show indicate it will be politically focused. Baron Cohen and Trump have always been critics of one another, with Trump openly hoping for Cohen to lose popularity at different points.
There was a time when the phrase "a new comedy by Sacha Baron Cohen" would be enough to get the world giddy with excitement.
