Dousing all the speculations about the big announcement around Delhi Daredevils, the Delhi-based Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise has announced a brand makeover and has changed its name to Delhi Capitals. After being known as the Delhi Daredevils for the past decade, Delhi's IPL team will now be called Delhi Capitals. Delhi's team management and top bosses conducted an official event for announcing the change, the event was live streamed on popular social media platform - Facebook. In the U.S., there is an ice hockey team called Washington Capitals, which plays in the National Hockey League.
"We, at JSW Sports, are proud to be associated with the capital city of India and wanted our team, our players, our fans to wear that fact with pride", said Parth Jindal, co-owner and chairman, Delhi Capitals. There has also been a change of people handling Delhi- Sriram Srinath, who was with Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been hired to run the cricket operations. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting will continue as the coach and will be assisted by Mohammad Kaif. Iyer had taken over the role from an out-of-form Gautam Gambhir mid-way during the last season.
Ahead of the start of the season, Delhi left Gautam Gambhir for IPL 2019.
Coming to the core squad, they have retained Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, Chris Morris and also the Nepal Spinner. Shikhar Dhawan will join the side for this edition. It finishing at the bottom of the table in IPL 2018.
