David Letterman returns to TV with Obama interview

Former President Barack Obama and David Letterman are shown here during the filming of "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman".

The streaming platform teased the new show's January 12 launch in a tweet with a lineup topped by the former USA leader: "Obama".

Actor George Clooney, Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai, actress Tina Fey, shock jock Howard Stern and rap superstar Jay-Z complete the lineup.

Letterman's interview with Obama will mark the former president's first television talk show appearance since he left office in January a year ago.

Produced by RadicalMedia and Letterman's Worldwide Pants, Incorporated, for Netflix, each 60-minute episode of My Next Guest is centered around one extraordinary figure whom Dave finds fascinating.

Obama will be Letterman's first guest on 12 January 2018 and the interview will serve as Obama's first television talk show appearance since leaving office. The new talk show series will include six episodes, all of which will be released this year.

In each of the hour-long episodes, Letterman will conduct long-form conversations with his guests, while exploring topics related to them on his own.

His return to television for Netflix was announced in August 2017, when the quick-witted host said that Pope Francis and President Donald Trump would be top of his wish-list for the series. "I feel excited and lucky to be working on this project for Netflix", said the comedic host.
