Cristiano Ronaldo at risk of one-game Champions League ban

Patrice Evra has shared his WhatsApp conversation with Cristiano Ronaldo where the Juventus star predicted that his side would successfully dump Atletico Madrid out of the Champions League. You must congratulate a rival when they play a game like that and you are beaten like today.

In the aftermath of his heroics Ronaldo was more than happy to reflect on what he said was one of his best nights as a player. "I do my job and I'm very happy, it was a magical evening".

"It had to be a special night and it was, not just for the goals, but for the team and their incredible attitude", continued the five-time Ballon d'Or victor.

Do you think Ronaldo can win the Champions League with Juventus this season?

Ronaldo's stats in the Champions League are simply incredible.

Messi's goals make this the 11th consecutive season in which he has reached the 35-goal mark, but Ronaldo's hat-trick against Atletico underlined his status as the king of the Champions League. Real knocked them out in the 2014-15 quarterfinals and beat them on penalties in the 2016 final (with Ronaldo scoring the decisive kick).

Ronaldo's arrival had made Juventus one of the favourites in the Champions League, which the Serie A champions have lost five times in the final since their 1996 title. It was a bad night for Diego Simeone's men, who struggled to even threaten Szczesny's goal.

When Simeone signed a new three-year contract in February, Atletico presented his extension like they might a new marquee signing, and with good reason.

Former Manchester United teammate Rio Ferdinand hailed him on BT Sport as "a living football god".

Aguero doubled the lead three minutes later after running onto Raheem Sterling's deft backheel, Leroy Sane stroked in another goal before halftime, before Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus added second-half goals for City against the demoralized visitors from Germany.

"They gave away a legend for 100 million euros".

Simeone was fined €20,000 ($22,500) by UEFA for improper conduct and it remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will face a similar punishment.

Finally, the biggest outcome may come in the form of a fiscal loss of 20 million euros, a figure that is guaranteed to a team every time they progress to the next round of the Champions League.
