Cormier ready and eager to fight Manuwa

Jones is expected to be cleared following a suspension issued last July for a failed drug test.

The rematch has failed to happen twice after Cormier was forced out of the UFC 197 fight last April due to a knee injury, while Jones was pulled from the UFC 200 match last July after testing positive for estrogen blockers he has later declared that came from an unmarked sexual enhancement pill.

If Jones ultimately decides not to take the fight, Cormier will face heavy-handed British slugger Jimi Manuwa instead as he looks to defend his light heavyweight title for the third time.

"Is it gonna be [Jon] Jones or Manuwa?" That's what I think, but it's all up to the UFC and their plans.

Both Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have indicated they'd like to meet again in the octagon soon.

But, later that night, Dana White told ESPN that the promotion is still hoping to put Cormier up against returning ex-champ Jon Jones at UFC 214.

"You can't really argue with Jon Jones", Manuwa said "He's the best of all time in all weight divisions - maybe him and (Demetrious Johnson) after (UFC on FOX 24) performance". As a result, Cormier was named the replacement and would go on to defeat Johnson with fourth round submission, earning the 205-pound title. Preux at UFC 197 in April of a year ago, and while Jones won relatively comfortably by unanimous decision, it was an uninspired performance in comparison to the high standards we've come to expect from him. White did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.

If that date ultimately serves as his return to action, White doubled down on his previous statement that Jones will not be in the main event even if he's taking on Cormier in one of the biggest grudge matches in UFC history.

While no announcement has been made, it certainly appears for now both Cormier and Manuwa are interested in a summer meeting. "Where's the contract. This [is] light work".
