British singer Dua Lipa gets two Grammy Award nominations

The nominees were announced Friday (Dec. 7).

The soundtrack of Marvel's "Black Panther" propelled rap superstar Kendrick Lamar to the front of this year's Grammy pack with eight nominations, closely followed by fellow rapper Drake who scored seven.

Entertainment Weekly's "Entertainers Of The Year" recipients Cardi B and Childish Gambino both racked up five nominations. It's that time of year where music's brightest stars from all genres get judged for the music they put out this year by the one and only Recording Academy.

Select Grammy nominees will first be announced on "CBS This Morning" and Apple Music at 8:30 a.m. The rapper/R&B artist also received an Album of the Year nomination for "Beerbongs & Bentleys" and Best Pop Solo Performance for his hit "Better Now".

Young Spirit, a group from the Frog Lake Cree First Nation in Alberta, is nominated for best regional roots music album for "Mewasinsational - Cree Round Dance".

The Panther nomination gives Lamar another chance to win an album of the year award. Her "Reputation" album is up for best pop vocal album.

- Best compilation soundtrack for visual media: "Call Me By Your Name"; "Deadpool 2"; "The Greatest Showman"; "Lady Bird"; "Stranger Things". The Carters earned two nods in the R&B category along with best music video, while Grande picked up two nods in pop. Although he was nominated for album of the year, surprisingly, he did not win a place in the best rap album competition.

The band Greta Van Fleet, three brothers from MI, has managed to sell out shows all over the world - but has rarely managed to win over most critics.

He's also nominated twice in the rap song category, where "God's Plan" and "Sicko Mode" are among the contenders for the award given to the songwriters. Boi-1da is contending for the Producer of the Year, Non-Classical award. Minaj completely shut out this year after the release of her last album, Queen. But the rapper, who has received 24 nominations to-date, did not receive any nominations this year. Tack on Cardi's nomination alongside Maroon 5 for "Girls Like You" for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance bring her total nominations this year to five. Instead, country singer Kacey Musgraves beat him to the punch with a nomination for album of the year.

L.A. -based Montreal creative director Willo Perron is nominated for his work on singer St. Vincent's album "Masseduction" in the best recording package category.
