Bayern Munich's Neuer out until January after foot surgery

For the second time this year, Manuel Neuer has undergone surgery after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his left foot - this time after suffering an injury in training.

The 31-year-old World Cup victor sustained the same injury to the same foot in April and suffered a repeat in training on Monday.

Neuer suffered a similar injury to the same foot in April.

He then heroically played in both legs of Bayern's Champions League quarter-final defeat to Real Madrid, which reportedly exacerbated the problem and saw him miss the remainder of the club's campaign.

"The operation went perfectly which is the most important thing now".

James Rodriguez impressed on his first start for Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga champions returned to top spot with a 3-0 win at Schalke on Tuesday. "Manuel will be back to his previous best and available to us again in January", a Bayern statement read.

"I'm so sorry for Manuel, of course that is a setback for him", said Germany's head coach Joachim Loew.

Sven Ulreich will mount the duty post until Neuer's return, and he's not the most commanding of presence in goal.

Germany star Toni Kroos offered: "You'll be fit again soon".

MANUEL NEUER has given fans an update from his hospital bed after having surgery on his broken foot. Stoeckle has previously treated stars Bastian Schweinsteiger, Franck Ribery and David Alaba.
