Atiku Visits PDP Headquarters, Holds Talks With Makarfi

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on all those who defected from People's Democratic Party, PDP, to the party, which he described as home.

He recalled that the PDP was founded on the principles of democracy, good governance, unity of the country and the prosperity of its people.

"Your Excellency, you have opened the floodgates and we expect many more high profile returnees and new entrants into the PDP".

"He is known to hobnob from one party to the other when he can not have control in that party".

The ex-VP arrived the Wadata Plaza by 11:58 am and went straight to the office of the PDP National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, where they had a brief chat.

"Mr Chairman, I want to congratulate you for a wonderful work which you have been doing to redeem the image of this party, to rebrand it and return it to its original form".

The Publicity Secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, confirmed the planned visit by Atiku.

"Normally, I am not given to receiving awards because we know what has happened to that in this country".

Addressing newsmen after the private meeting held with the leadership of the party, Atiku said he was at the secretariat to pay courtesy call to the national leadership.

She said "Atiku may have had that weight some years ago but over the years he's been losing that weight and at the moment, I can tell you that even in his local government area in his native Adamawa, he can't win any election". And the story will be a positive one by the end of the day. But I read the presentation you made to me and the significance of your background became very important to me.

Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on social media, Lauretta Onochie, has said that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar can not win in his local government if he contests the 2019 presidential election. "That is what PDP must stand for if it has to survive", he said.

When he alighted from his black Mercedes Benz at the entrance of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), Hall, he waved continuously to acknowledge cheers from his supporters and other party faithful who had waited to receive him.

"The choice of Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, the National Chairman of our great party as the National Life Grand Patron and Chairman Board of Trustees of our association is for us to tap from his wealth of experience towards having viable and strong grassroots network ahead of 2019 continuity agenda", he said.

He said: "We want a leadership that is able to do the job".
