Army Patrol attack: Encounter rages with hiding militants

At last seven pilgrims to the Hindu shrine at Amarnath were killed and 15 others were injured when militants attacked a bus with 56 people near Anantnag on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on July 10.

Two LeT militants, identified as Furqan and Maviya, were also killed in the gunfight. Find us on Facebook too! The security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a hunt for the militants, the police official added.

Three terrorists were killed during the encounter that broke out on Monday when an army convoy came under attack. "After the search party entered the building, the hiding militants fired upon force which triggered an encounter".

Meanwhile, the Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid said that another militant who was injured during the gunfight has been arrested. Locals said that they heard massive blasts during evening hours and it seemed the building in which terrorists are present have been razed to ground. According to reports, local youths clashed with security forces near the encounter site.

Traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar highway remained suspended because of the gunfight. Train service between the Kashmir Valley and Bannihal town in Jammu region was also disrupted.
