The original film featured Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell and Edward Herrmann, and was directed by Garry Marshall. The concept is a little unusual in retrospect, and it hasn't aged all that well, but this remake should make the politics a little less creepy by switching the roles around. For the remake, the main roles will be swapped, and the film will "focus on a spoiled playboy from one of Mexico's wealthiest families (Derbez) who falls overboard off his yacht".
For Anna Faris, current star of CBS sitcom Mom and longtime cinematic comedy superstar of the Scary Movie parody film series and The House Bunny, there's a bit of "six degrees" with this project, since original Overboard star Kurt Russell will play the father of her husband Chris Pratt's character in May's Marvel sequel Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
