Android O will be the final update for OnePlus 3 and 3T

Head of Product from OnePlus, Oliver Z., went to the OnePlus 3/3T forums for some Q&A session to talk to some folks about updates for that handset. After Android O that'll only be available to OnePlus 5 owners.

Considering the fact that OnePlus is a little bit sluggish when it comes to software support, owners of OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T have been in quite a lot confusion lately regarding if they would continue getting software updates.

While gadget freaks are on cloud nine and going insane for OnePlus's latest launch OnePlus 5, Shenzhen based Chinese smartphone manufacturer has recently announced the update cycle for their last year's flagship duo, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T on their latest blog. However, these devices will continue to receive security updates for the "foreseeable future".

Well, to begin, OnePlus and other Android affiliated OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers) have a treaty with Google to offer a minimum of 18 months of Android software support. It's left a bad taste in the fanbase and has left some questioning if the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T would survive their two years with Android O at the end of the ride.

The forthcoming update to OP3/3T is likely to carry August Security Patches and an OxygenOS update is also on the way, coming within 1-2 months it upgrades to version 4.5.

The OnePlus 2, from the class of 2015, were initially supposed to receive Android Nougat, but were recently designated to be forever stuck on Android Marshmallow instead. It will not bring any new OS to the two smartphones. If you were hoping to see Android P, you're out of luck.

The smartphone maker has announced that it will be updating OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T to Android O, but that will be the last of it as far as operating system updates are concerned. That particular OS version, however, came with a bug that didn't allow users to play games on OnePlus 5.
