America's Got Talent Winner Neal E. Boyd Dead at 42

Boyd died at his mother's home Sunday night in Sikeston, Missouri. He reportedly dealt with a health condition related to his heart in the past.

"We are very saddened to hear that one of our "AGT" family members, Neal E. Boyd, has passed away", NBC said in a statement via "America's Got Talent" social channels.

The opera singer was best known as the champion of the third series of the U.S. talent show back in 2008, when he was hailed by judges Sharon Osbourne, Piers Morgan and David Hasselhoff.

It's been a decade since Neal won "America's Got Talent" in 2008 with his operatic pop singing and scored the $1 million prize along with a headlining show in Las Vegas. "So sad. Rest peacefully, Neal E. Boyd".

No autopsy was done, according to the county coroner. He released the album My American Dream in 2009, and performed at the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida.

Last year, Neal and his mother were involved in a near-fatal auto accident after he blacked out while driving. "[Recovery is] a very slow progress".

Boyd briefly dabbled in politics, too: He ran for a seat in the Missouri House of Representatives twice, but was defeated both times.

Boyd was the co-owner of Cox & Boyd Insurance Solutions, an insurance agency in Missouri.
