Almost 2000 Palestinians clash with Israeli forces in Gaza, West Bank

Soldiers open fire on stone-throwing demonstrators in Gaza and the West Bank, killing two teens and wounding others.

Palestinian protesters clashed again with Israeli forces on Friday. Soldiers opened fire because the Palestinians "posed a threat". Attacks from the Gaza Strip, including the launching of a total of 19 rockets into Israel, increased dramatically from November, when only one such incident was recorded.

"An Israeli father of six was killed last night in cold blood by Palestinian terrorists", Friedman said on Twitter on Wednesday after a 35-year-old was killed near an illegal Israeli settlement near Nablus.

Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement construction in the northern West Bank, said six Israeli bulldozers began razing a large tract of land near the spot where an Israeli Jewish settler was killed in a drive-by shooting on Tuesday.

Israel's settlement project in the occupied territories is illegal under worldwide law and seen by the global community as a major obstacle to peace with the Palestinians.

The status of Jerusalem has ignited tensions between Israelis and Palestinians for decades.

Since US President Donald Trump's December 6 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, there have been violent protests every Friday in the West Bank and Gaza, although their size has shrunk in recent weeks.

Israel's occupation of East Jerusalem effectively put the entire city under de facto Israeli control.

Palestinian leaders want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.

A further 200,000 live in East Jerusalem, annexed by Israel in a move never recognised by the global community.
